From Bustling Nairobi to Breezy Thika: Should You Take the Plunge?

From Bustling Nairobi to Breezy Thika: Should You Take the Plunge?

Once, while engrossed in Area Code, a program previously aired on KTN Home, delving into the history of various Nairobi estates, I noticed a recurring theme: nostalgia. Almost every interviewee fondly reminisced about the old Nairobi, yearning for its clean and orderly estates, reliable commuter buses, efficient garbage collection, children’s playgrounds within estate courts, communal areas, and consistent water supply, among other amenities that were once taken for granted but are now sporadic or absent.

Nairobi has undeniably undergone a significant transformation in recent years. Those who were born and raised in the city before its gradual descent into chaos often find themselves longing for the past. You can’t blame them, really. However, as they say, change is inevitable, and adaptability is key to survival.

State of Nairobi, Now

The influx of people into Nairobi has brought both opportunities and challenges. Today, Nairobi stands as the primary economic hub, contributing approximately 27% to Kenya’s GDP, as per the latest County Gross Domestic Product report published by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS). This underscores the abundant economic opportunities that continue to draw people from all walks of life, both locally and internationally, seeking a share of the prosperity.

Yet, the surge in population has presented its own set of challenges. Nairobi’s core estates struggle to accommodate the growing number of residents arriving daily to partake in the city’s flourishing prosperity. The infrastructure is strained, and government agencies have struggled to keep pace with the escalating demands. Consequently, those yearning for the ‘old Nairobi’ lifestyle are migrating to satellite towns where land is more affordable, and there is room to incorporate the social amenities lacking in Nairobi’s legacy estates.

So, when considering a move to a new estate, especially in Nairobi’s satellite towns, it is crucial to assess not only the amenities but also the neighbourhood. Herencia is a prime example of a development that caters to the modern urban lifestyle, with a range of top-notch amenities, a place where hopefully, you will get to call your home someday. But what about the area itself? Let’s delve a little deeper and explore what Herencia’s neighbourhood has to offer.

One of the most significant stressors for current parents is the quest for a suitable school for their children. Considering the challenges associated with the new curriculum, CBC, risking a child’s education is not an option. Some noteworthy schools in the area include Mang’u High School, Braeburn International, Juja Preparatory School, Jomo Kenyatta University (JKUAT), and Mt. Kenya University, among others. It’s essential to find a school with a reasonable commute to ensure your child doesn’t have to wake up at 3 or 4 am to arrive on time.

Social Life

An engaging social life is important for a well-rounded life as it adds vibrancy to one’s existence. Indeed, you shouldn’t live in a vacuum. While Herencia offers a bustling commercial centre, there’s a whole world to explore outside its walls. Notable social venues nearby include Thika Sports Club, Nightfall Park, Annas Mall, and Juja City Mall, offering opportunities to socialise and create lasting memories.

Nature & Adventure

For thrill-seekers and adventurers, residing in Herencia doesn’t entail a dull existence. Apart from enjoying the picturesque dam on-site, residents can venture into the surrounding areas, such as Thika/Chania Falls. And if traveling is your passion, you’re in luck. You can embark on road trips and admire the breathtaking landscapes of Kiambu County, like the tea farms at Riara Ridge. Moreover, we offer tours of coffee farms that are tailored to provide personalized experiences. Places of Worship

In times of hardship, places of worship provide solace and strength, giving us the will to live and face adversities. Although Herencia lacks religious sanctuaries within its bounds, it enjoys proximity to various places of worship catering to diverse faiths, including Christian churches like St. Patrick Catholic Church, Winners Chapel International, PCEA Thika Town, and mosques such as Masjid Noor and Rayyan for the Muslim community, along with Hindu temples like BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir and Shree Jai Hindu Temple.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, Herencia’s appeal transcends its captivating landscapes and social amenities, offering an array of retail and residential options in its vicinity. From the Classic Shopping Center Complex to Thika West Centre and Thika Gateway Plaza, coupled with social joints, Herencia promises a dynamic and enriching lifestyle. Whether one seeks retail therapy, culinary delights, or luxurious living spaces, the surrounding establishments complement Herencia’s vision of fostering a thriving community blending convenience with tranquillity.
